Kid’s Dance Loyalty and Devotion
Our performers are from Tri-cities Chinese Language School. They learn Chinese language as well as practice Chinese cultures every weekend in the TCCLS. The dance was inspired by the story of a military general during era of Southern Song Dynasty (12th century). He is best known for leading the defense of Southern Song against invaders. According to the historical records and legend, Ye had the four Chinese characters Jing Zhong Bao Guo, means “serve the country with the utmost loyalty” tattooed across his back. Widely seen as a patriot and national hero in China, since after his death, Yue Fei has evolved into a standard epitome of loyalty in Chinese culture. Yang-ge Dance
Yang-ge, or “Rice Sprout Song” is one of the most representative forms of folk arts. It is very popular in Northern China and people will go out into the street in the evening and dance together in a line or a circle formation. The colorful costumes, red silk ribbon around the waist, special swinging body movements express the happiness of harvesting, and festival feeling. Let’s swing!
Mo Li Hua
Mo Li Hua means Jasmine flower. It is a popular Chinese folk song. It is created in 18th century and was first introduced to audience outside china in 1896 as temporary national anthem by Qing Dynasty officials in Europe. You probably have heard its melody during events such as 2004 Summer Olympics, 2008 Summer Olympics and 2010 Shanghai Expo opening ceremony. It uses the five-note scale developed in China and popular through Asia. The song is usually sung partially unaccompanied by a young girl. But today, let’s enjoy the violin solo version from Mr. Lv.
Uyghur /ˈwiːɡər/ Folk Dance
The Uyghurs, are one of the 55 minor ethics primarily live in Xingjiang Uyghurs Autonomous Region of China. They are a Turkic ethnic group living in Eastern and Central Asia. The word “Uyghur” according the linguists and historians means “united”. Their unique custom and culture bring us very impressive forms of performing arts. Let’s welcome Lingling Wu and her team for the Uyghur Folk Dance.
